VETWAYS publishes first research results
The VETWAYS research team has published its first research report.
Using culture as a lens to better understand student perspectives and experiences, the report is focused on the complex and sometimes difficult transitions student military service members and veterans in STEM make as they move from the military into the university.
Results show that students most perceive an absence of camaraderie in university life, and that the missing family atmosphere, trust, and deeper relationships of their military experience are an important influence on university experience. Findings point to the importance of social support networks and community-building efforts, particularly in STEM fields, to mitigate these students’ challenges as they move into university.
